A Fairytale Make-over was a make-up contest that’s part of the Pasko sa Gensan: Enchanted Gensan Festival. Eight ladies were brave enough to face my camera without make-up.
Then, with the make-up artists’ brush strokes and magic touches, these young ladies metamorphosed into fairytale characters, an enchanting sight indeed.
This was an on location shoot, at the backstage of KCC Mall Convention. The initial plan was that I will be provided with a pink backdrop but at the last minute, none of my requests were provided. I have no choice but to improvise. I used three strobe lights in my setup. One main light and one fill light, and good thing I brought a third strobe which I positioned at the far back to give me a pure white background, which initially was a plain wall with lots of dirt and dust.
The shoot was fast paced, I didn’t have much of the luxury of time as the event was on going, with the models being called on stage, at the same time I am shooting those who are waiting in queue at the backstage. But with all the pressure of getting the portraits right, I’m glad all goes well.

@orman – thanks kuya Orman. The make-up artists also have done a very good job, ibang klase na talaga ang mga taga Gensan. I haven’t seen this stuff here in Gensan 5 years ago

thanks doc… i have a few wide shots on stage but not during the pictorial. The backstage of KCC convention is so small to shoot a whole body given that I am limited with only a white dirty wall and an unpolished floor to begin with :(

buti na lang you have a wonderful website at nakita kong mga “fairies” .i was really anticipating to watch the makeover but did not make it..masyadong busy sa parlor that whole day.i really like all yuor shots esp barbie and weng alicartes model.(the 1st place.)

feeling ko close na tayo kahit di pa tayo nagkita…kc i visit yuor wonderful site everyday(almost…)i have also an inclinations for photography…and all the pics in ‘a fairytale makeover’ is superb..and yes we give credit to our make up artist here ..they did good job in the event.i wonder if marlon otanes(egay cadiente’s friend)joined the contest .i always look up to him when it comes to make up(he is the champion in the regional hair and make up trends2008,evening makeup category)but of course weng alicarte is the best too.
i just thought if i can use the pics in a fairy tale makeover in my friendster just like what barbie does.but this time i will upload the 10 pics(or do u have some more.lol)but i will give credit to you as the photographer.im sure marami ng makanotice sa site mo.
