Copyright Violations Rampant in Ilo-ilo
January 29, 2009 | News | 527 views
With all the copyright laws and information about photographers’ right… some people and some entities seems stubborn, some intentionally want to look like an ignorant to follow and RESPECT rules and copyright. A fellow photographer’s photos were used without permission, not even a name credit for the photos used. Sadly enough, even his name watermark on the photo was deliberately erased!
An excerpt:
“Was it so hard to ask permission? I believe in Tourism thru Photography, but please give credit where it is due. Using Photos that is not yours and dont have permission to use it is a violation of my basic copyright. How many coffee shops, hotels and restaurants where flooded with this Dinagyang Special Supplementary Issue? What makes it worse is that they intentionally erased my watermark.. now that adds malice to this whole situation.”

Leonard. Ironically I wrote about a similar subject in my December 21, post on my Blog. I think it is unfortunate that the proliferation of and ease of access to, the world wide web seems to have promoted a culture in which many of us believe that if we can right-click it and grab it, we must have the right to use it. While my own comments address legal copyright issues, its true focus was more about our lack of courtesy and decency about respecting others’ intellectual property rights, and the need to educate persons who for whatever reason either do not know or understand — or simply have not thought about these rights. I will continue my own efforts to do that, both personally and publicly, and I applaud you for raising it your Blog.
LOVE the “wet fruit” photos, BTW!
