After the long wait, the photo exhibit was finally opened and the winners were announced last May 1 at the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Parish, General Santos City.
Of the 70+ entries, 33 photos were shortlisted and will be included in the coffee table book of OLPGV in commemoration of the parish’s the 50th anniversary. Among the shorlisted entries, my photo titled “Sampung Utos” was selected among the top five winners in the OLPGV Tahanan ni Maria Photo Contest. The photo exhibit will run until May 11, 2009 at the parish grounds.
I was also commissioned by Fr. Manny Gelez, C.P., the commemorative book chair, to design the coffee table book cover.
I had several designs in mind. At first, I tried to combine the top five photos into the design but by looking at it afterwards, I felt that the design had too many elements in it.
Finally, I opted to make the design simpler and elegant. Because it was the parish’s 50th anniversary, using a gold text would be appropriate. Then to make it stand out, I placed it over a blue background.
I then chose the photo titled John 3:16 as the main image because aside from representing the church’s iconic structure, it also stood for the entire parish itself.
